CHEMTREC is a 24-hour hazardous materials communication service. They provide
emergency response information to emergency personnel when an incident occurs
involving a shipment of hazardous materials.
The service can be used for shipments of chemical, biological, and radioactive materials.
There is no charge for individuals using this service. EHRS maintains and pays all fees associated with the account.
The University of Pennsylvania account is set up for the following names:
|
- University of Pennsylvania
- Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP)
- New Bolton Center
|
One of the three names listed above must appear on the shipping paper in order for CHEMTREC to recognize that the shipment is from the University of Pennsylvania.
CHEMTREC’s 24-hour phone number is 1-800-424-9300. The toll free number will work from anywhere in the U.S, Canada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. For shipments outside the U.S. use (703)-527-3887 (Collect calls are accepted at both numbers)
This number must be included on the shipping paper when a hazardous material is offered for transport.
Biological and Radioactive Shipments. A copy of the completed shippers declaration must be sent to CHEMTREC at least 24-hours prior to the shipment being sent.
Chemical Shipments. CHEMTREC requires a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each chemical or product being offered for shipment in addition to the shippers declaration. The information must be sent to CHEMTREC at least 24 hours prior to the shipment being sent. Please contact Jim Crumley of EHRS at 215-746-5036 prior to sending MSDS’s to determine if the MSDS is already in the database.
Shipping papers and MSDS's sent via fax must be legible. Electronic copies are preferred and can be sent to the e-mail address shown below.
