The EHRS Laboratory Sharps Waste Management Policy is followed. If NO, then Implement the EHRS Laboratory Sharps Waste Management Policy.
Sharps containers are in use. If NO, then Infectious waste sharps must be placed in leakproof, puncture resistant, lidded containers that are labeled with the universal biohazard symbol. Click here for more information.
Sharps containers are disposed of on a regular basis. If NO, then Dispose of sharps containers as infectious waste when they are 2/3 to ¾ full.
Needle recapping is allowed. If YES, then Do not recap needles to prevent percutaneous injury. Use the “one handed scoop” method or recap by mechanical means (forceps) if recapping is absolutely necessary. Click here for more information.
Needle nipping devices are in use. If YES, then Prohibit the use of needle nipping devices. Needle nipping creates aerosols that may be infectious, creating exposure risks to the user. Click here for more information.
Needles and syringes are disposed of as a unit If NO, then Dispose of all needles and syringes as a single unit. Discard all syringes, whether they have needles attached or not, be discarded in sharps containers. Click here for more information.
Carcinogen/mutagen-contaminated sharps are segregrated into infectious waste sharps containers and disposed of as infectious waste WITHOUT autoclaving? If NO, then Segregate carcinogen/mutagen-contaminated sharps from other infectious sharps waste. Place carcinogen/mutagen-contaminated sharps in an appropriate sharps container labeled “Carcinogen/Mutagen Contaminated Sharps/Do Not Autoclave”. Discard as infectious waste without autoclaving. The EHRS Laboratory Glassware/Plasticware Disposal Policy is followed for disposal of non-infectious glassware/plasticware. If NO, then Dispose of all non-infectious glassware/plasticware (excluding laboratory sharps) in accordance with this policy. Click here for more information.
